Letter to Parents

Dear Parents/Guardians:

On September 20, 2018 the Forsyth R-III School Board of Education voted to place a no tax increase bond issue on the April 2, 2019 ballot. Our district has the opportunity to pursue this bond issue based on our current assessed valuation and our work to maintain a fiscally conservative and responsible focus with district funding. The election will require a 4/7ths majority vote to pass. The information below will explain the bond issue and the projects that we plan to complete. Please see the information below that explains the bond issue as well as the projects that we plan to complete.

We would also like to invite you to attend one of our community informational meetings where we will be sharing information about the bond and projects, as well as answering any questions that the community may have. The community informational nights will be held on Tuesday, March 19th at 6:00 p.m. and Tuesday, March 26th at 6:00 p.m.  Both meetings will be held in our Performing Arts Center.

The language for the bond issue will read as follows:

Shall Forsyth R-III School District of Taney County, Missouri issue its general obligation bonds in the amount of $5,000,000 for the purpose of acquiring property and constructing, improving, repairing, renovating, furnishing and equipping school facilities, including safety and security improvements and construction of additional classrooms at district facilities?

Will this bond issue increase patron’s taxes?

If this question is approved, the District’s debt service property tax levy is estimated to remain unchanged at $0.75 per one hundred dollars of assessed valuation of real and personal property.

What projects will be completed if the bond issue passes?

Additional Classrooms/Learning Spaces

New classroom space has not been added to the district since 2008. Our student population has remained strong and we have continued to provide significantly more services for kids to support their needs, which is driving the search for additional space. We have increased in our necessity for space for special education classrooms, as well as locations to provide occupational and physical therapy, on site health care, and mental health counseling. With the requirement for space increasing, we are now at capacity in our elementary and middle school buildings.

Renovation of Existing Classrooms

We have many classrooms within the district that are in need of refurbishing and updating. We are focusing a portion of the bond funding to revitalize our current space to provide a more modern and inviting environment for our students. While we work hard to maintain our buildings to provide inviting and comfortable learning spaces for our students, we are in need of some large scale work to provide a 21st century learning environment.

Renovation and Expansion of our Cafeteria/Kitchen

The layout of our current cafeteria and kitchen areas are no longer meeting the needs of our students. Our student seating is at capacity during meal time and our serving areas need to be expanded to be able to provide more efficient transition for students as they move through the serving line.  Our goal is to provide more space for students while also providing students more time to eat during meal time.

Renovation of Middle School Gymnasium

Our gym floor in our middle school is in need of replacement and we are planning to transition the middle school stage into small locker rooms. Based on the extensive use of our gymnasiums by our community it is needed to refurbish the space and make it useable for our evening games and events. The middle school, once refurbished, will be used for junior high basketball and volleyball games.

 

Safety and Security Upgrades

Our district will be updating our security cameras as well as providing additional security features at exterior entries and interior classroom doors. Student and staff safety is of the upmost importance and these efforts will allow us to increase our efforts.

Facility Upgrades

We will be completing some large scale repairs to our ground source heating and air conditioning system that will improve efficiency and extend the life of the current system. We will be completing a large roof repair over a section of our buildings that houses special class space for both elementary and middle school students.

Property Acquisition

In December of 2018 the board of education voted to purchase the vacant property on the east side of our campus. We purchased the property out of our capital projects budget and the land was purchased to provide space for future campus expansion. We will use funds from the bond to reimburse our capital project budget which will allow us to maintain the healthy balance in that fund that we have worked to establish.
